Tiemann Leads Kats to Series Win

The Sam Houston State Bearkats were led by the play of Brian Tiemann against conference rival LSC Kingwood. Brian finished the weekend 6-12 with a 3B and a HR to go with his nearly flawless performance at shortstop. The Kats won Game 1 on a 1-hitter by Hunter Pirtle and hung on to win Game 2 in extra innings after a furious late inning rally from Kingwood. A well played Game 3 by both teams went to Kingwood 4-3 on the strength of a complete game by Kingwood’s Jordan Coaliron.

Lauderdale Slugs Montgomery to Sweep

Ryan Lauderdale’s bat helped the LSC-Montgomery Mavericks keep their hot start going. Lauderdale was 7-8 and had 10 RBI on the series. The victories move the Mavs into a tie for first place in the Gulf Coast East at 5-1.

Texas State Takes 2 of 3 From UTSA

Strong pitching performances from Texas State’s Matt Steiner (no-hitter) and Trenton Cox (2 ER) led the Bobcats to a 2-1 start in conference play. The Bobcats were also aided by the hitting of Sean Pilola (2B, 3B, and HR) and Matt Steiner (3-2B & HR). The UTSA Roadrunners did battle back to salvage the series after winning a wild back and forth affair on Sunday by a final score of 18-16.

#6 Texas A&M Sweeps SAC

Texas A&M used the dominance of David Rodriguez at the dish and the power pitching of David Williams and Roman Brown to take all 3 conference games from SAC. Colt Tillman offered a strong offensive performance for San Antonio College. The wins keep Texas A&M perfect on the season with an 11-0 record.

UNT Forfeits Series to Baylor

UNT has forfeited their series at Baylor this past weekend. The games will be recorded as 7-0, 7-0, and 9-0 victories for the Bears.

#3 Texas Tech Takes 2 of 2 From SMU

#3 Texas Tech used an offensive explosion to top SMU in Game 1. The Red Raiders were led by the bat of Oscar Sandate who accounted for 7 RBI’s and a pair of doubles in 2 games. The SMU Mustangs battled hard in game 2 behind the pitching of Brad Quillen before falling to the Red Raiders after some late runs. Game 3 was not played and a formal protest is under review by the league.

SoPAC Regional Playoffs

The Southern Pacific conference will host its regionalplayoffs in Henderson, NV from May 3-5.  Burkholder Park will host the 3 day tournament.  The official tournament hotel is the FiestaHenderson Hotel and Casino.
