#5 Texas Tech Starts Hot Behind Canak
2012 World Series stand out Ryan Canak of Texas Tech wasted no time going to work in 2013. Canak tossed 7 innings for the win in his season debut and struck out an incredible 14 North Texas batters. The Red Raiders also flexed their muscle at the dish behind the bats of Glen Morrison and last year’s Region hitter of the year Luke Wadley.
SMU Shines in 3 Game Sweep
SMU’s road to success has been long and difficult over the last few years, but that was all behind them this past weekend after a 3 game sweep of Houston Community College. The Mustangs celebrated close victories behind the pitching of Charley Haley and Brad Quillen. The weekend was capped by walkoff double from Grant Brandon in game 3.
#16 Texas Escapes SFA
#16 Texas cruised to an easy 10 victory in Game 1, but from there things got difficult. The Longhorns needed a late 2-R homer from Clay Modgling to tie before winning game 2 by a score of 9-7. On Sunday, Stephen F Austin displayed their bats in a 21-14 shootout. Texas narrowly takes the series 2 games to 1.
#18 Texas A&M Takes Openers
#18 Texas A&M opened up at home against Sam Houston State this past weekend and took all 3 games to start the season 3-0. The Aggies cruised to victories in games 1 and 3, but Game 2 proved more difficult. Evan Brummet had a late game tying single to send it to extras then was the hero again with a walk-off single to keep the Aggies perfect.
LSC Kingwood Sweeps UTSA
The Kingwood bats were hot all weekend. The Coyotes outscored a short-handed UTSA club by a total of 43-14 on the weekend. The Kingwood club was led by the outstanding pitching of Zach Stuard ( 6 IP, 11 K’s) and the hitting of Jordan Coaliron (8-13). Kingwood moves to 4-2 on the season.
SAC/Victoria Split
San Antonio College and Victoria College split a weekend doubleheader by scores of 6-2 and 2-6. The VC Pirates were led once again by a great pitching performance of Brooks Bynum while San Antonio was led by the hitting of Colt Tillman and the pitching of Michael Vasquez.
LSC Montgomery Continues Hot Start
LSC- Montgomery kept up its hot start this weekend by taking 2 from Lee College to extend their record to 6-0 on the season. The Mavericks were led by Shane O’Bannon at the dish who went 4-7 this weekend with a triple and also by Jorge Huerta who had a great relief appearance to earn a win.

Texas State Score Series Win
Texas State opened their season on a high note this weekend by taking 2 of 3 from a tough D2 opponent Stephen F Austin. All three games in the series were tight, 1-run ball games most of the way, but the Bobcats found their way to the top of the heap in this one.
