Texas State Earns Rare 4 Game Sweep

The Texas State Bobcats continue to fly under the radar in the race for the Gulf Coast Regional, but they made themselves known in a big way this past weekend by earning a rare 4-game sweep over Houston. The Cats were led by Nick Cardenas on the mound and Jared Carillo at the dish. The wins help Texas State stay in a tie with Lone Star for the top spot in the East. Those two show down next weekend.

#16 Lone Star Continues March Toward Regional

The 16th ranked Lone Star College (D1) Coyotes needed a great weekend to position themselves for the Gulf Coast East top level and they got it, winning 3 out of 4 from a very tough Victoria team in Victoria. The Coyotes were led by NCBA batting average leader Trey Hagan as well as Kyle Baird who delivered a homer. For Victoria, Jacob Garza also homered. The wins put Lone Star atop the conference in a dead heat with Texas State. Those two show down next weekend.

#1 Texas A&M Wins Lone Star Showdown

The top ranked Texas A&M Aggies passed a tough test with a key series win over arch rival #12 Texas in College Station this past weekend. Pitching was the story here as NCBA wins leader David Williams delivered another great performance in Game 1, holding the Longhorns to just 1 run, while Justin Holder delivered a complete game effort in Game 3 to earn the series win for the Ags. The Horns played well also and are looking forward to a return series in Austin the final weekend of the season. For the Horns, Clay Modgling and Chris Muellner were in top form at the plate all weekend.

#18 Baylor Earns Sweep Over SMU

The Baylor Bears got yet another fantastic weekend from their starting pitchers. Robbie Greenberg was solid again, but the story of the week was Matt Chapa who delivered a 6 inning no-hitter in a run-rule shortened Game 2 of the series. Payne Drewelow was the star for the Bears at the plate. In 2 games, he was 4-5, with 2-2B, an inside the park HR, 3 RBI, 3 runs scored, 3 HBP, and a BB to lead the charge.

#3 Texas Tech Continues Surge

The 3rd ranked Texas Tech Red Raiders continued their surge toward a 6th straight conference title and regional berth. The crew from Lubbock took all 3 games from a very game North Texas team over the weekend. Graham Bunting and Jacob Cooper were key for the offensive attack on the weekend. For North Texas Marshall Little was solid at the plate.

Texas State Take 2 from Victoria

Victoria earned a sensational extra innings victory in Game 1 behind the rubber arm of Jordan Pacheco who went all 11 innings and earned the win to gain the upperhand in the series. The Texas State Bobcats rebounded nicely to pick up a convincing win in Game 2 for the doubleheader split. The Bobcats then stole a close Game 3 on walkoff single by Ryan Benevides for the series win and key conference position.

#16 Lone Star Adds To Non-Conference Resume

The 16th ranked Lone Star College Coyotes picked up 2 more non-conference wins to improve their resume, this time over a very tough UTSA team. UTSA took a close game 1 behind a stellar relief appearance from Ryan Henry, but LSC bounced back for a commanding win in Game 2 then capped the series win with a 1-run win in game 3.
