MID ATLANTIC TEAM PREVIEWS

DIVISION I TEAM PREVIEWS  |  DAY 7 OF 8

MID ATLANTIC REGION!

Virginia Tech looks to re-load with their 16 returners and win the 2025 Mid-Atlantic regional after falling to East Carolina  in the 2024 championship game. Setting the tone for the Hokies will be a crucial conference series versus 2024 regional qualifier James Madison.  JMU made the 2024 regional but came up short after losing their 1st two games. These two look to be the teams to beat in the Mid-Atlantic North.

In the South, the Pirates of East Carolina  will have the targets on their back and rightfully so. ECU has been a blue-blood of the NCBA since 2014 compiling a 121-12 conference record, 8 conference titles, 7 regional titles, a  World Series championship, and three World Series championship game appearances in that span.  However, the Purple and Gold will have their hands full in this loaded conference with Elon and NC State coming for them. Those two had a winner-take-all game 3 of their conference series in 2024 to decide who comes to the regional, where Elon prevailed 8-2. Elon returns 16 from last year’s squad while the Pack return 20 and want revenge.  And what about the new guy? High Point University joins the Mid-Atlantic South after auto-qualifying to come up from Division II. The Panthers were a DII powerhouse where they won 3 straight conference titles with a combined 36-1 record, 3 regional appearances, and 1 World Series appearance. The Panthers return 21 from the 2024 squad and will be no slouch.

Will the Pirates make it back to back regional titles or will someone new prevail in this loaded region?

SOUTH ATLANTIC TEAM PREVIEWS

DIVISION I TEAM PREVIEWS  |  DAY 6 OF 8

SOUTH ATLANTIC REGION!

There has been 1 representative of the South Atlantic Region at the NCBA DI World Series since 2018, and that club is none other than  Florida State.  The Seminoles return 2/3 of their World Series team last year and will look to win the South Atlantic Region for the sixth consecutive season. However, it will not be an easy feat as  Florida Gulf Coast will be looking for revenge from the 2024 regional. FGCU was in the driver’s seat after beating Florida State 6-5 in the 2nd round game of the regional, but the Noles fought back thru the loser’s bracket and double dipped FGCU on Sunday to advance to the World Series.

Another club who has FSU circled is the Tennessee Volunteers. In a wild back and forth regional tournament affair that saw FSU make multiple comebacks that needed several runs to be scored both times, FSU topped the Volunteers 10-9 to end Tennessee’s season.  The Vol’s return 22 of their own and look to build off last season’s conference title and regional tournament appearance.

All eyes are on Florida State. Who can stop them?

GREAT LAKES TEAM PREVIEW

DIVISION I TEAM PREVIEWS  |  DAY 5 OF 8

GREAT LAKES REGION!

Looking to win the Great Lakes Regional for the 3rd time in 4 years is the University of   Michigan.  Compiling a 41-4 conference record since 2022 and two conference championships, the Wolverines and their 22 returners from last year’s World Series squad have one goal in mind, to win a World Series. They will have to take down  not so cinderella story anymore, the  Univ. of Wisconsin Whitewater.  UWW saw a 3-6 record in 2022, turn into a World Series appearance in 2023, and followed that up with a regional appearance in 2024. The Warhawks look to make a playoff run this spring, but will have some work to do as they sit 4-5 in conference play entering the Spring Season. Another 2024 regional team, the Bearcats of  Cincinnati return a plethora of experience with 22 coming back to the 2025 squad. They sit in a position to control their own destiny with a 4-2 record in the Great Lakes South, tied with  Indiana  and Miami (OH).

Two other clubs to watch this Spring are Illinois State  and Notre Dame. The redbirds enter the Spring leading the Great Lakes West with a 7-2 clip, while Notre Dame is tied with Michigan at 3-0. Michigan State will look to make some noise and give Michigan and Notre Dame something to think about as well as they sit at 5-1 in the Great Lakes North. A series win against either rival can shake up the outlook.

Even with some conference series taking place in the fall, there is plenty yet to decide in the Great Lakes region.

GULF COAST TEAM PREVIEWS

DIVISION I TEAM PREVIEWS  |  DAY 4 OF 8

GULF COAST REGION!

Since 2018, the class of the Gulf Coast has been held by Texas A&M and    Louisiana State Univ. Combining for 5 (3 for A&M, 2 for LSU) regional championships in that span, these two have rose to the top of the regional prowess. A&M returns 19 players from their World Series squad last year, while LSU returns 16.   These two met in the 2024 Wood Wars fall tournament finale, where LSU came out on top. Though, staying atop of the Gulf Coast wont be easy. Standing in their way will be  Alabama who brings back 19 players this Spring. The Crimson Tide made the 2024 regional with a 19-9 record before being eliminated by SMU.  Riding off last year’s regional momentum, the Mustangs of Southern Methodist look to build off their regional appearance last year to take down the heavyweights in the region as well. And last but not least, how about Auburn?  The Tigers finished 12-3 in conference play on their way to a conference title, along with taking 2 of 3 from powerhouse LSU, and regional tournament colleague Alabama. They return a whopping 24 from last year’s Gulf Coast 2nd place regional finish group.

Will LSU return to the regional after missing last year? Can A&M make their 2nd consecutive World Series and 4th since 2017? Will we get somebody new out of the Gulf Coast?

MID AMERICA TEAM PREVIEWS

DIVISION I TEAM PREVIEWS  |  DAY 3 OF 8

MID AMERICA REGION!

Fresh off a 2024 regional championship, Iowa State enters the spring season leading their conference at 5-1 in prime position to make the regional again. The Cyclones return 20 from last year’s World Series group, with 9 of those carrying 2024 all-region honors.

The University of Colorado looks to return to the World Series after their 2023 appearance. The Buffs made the regional in 2024 but had an early exit after going 0-2. Colorado’s rival, Mid-America powerhouse, and 6X World Series champion, Colorado State, look to make it back to their 1st World Series since 2017. CSU made the 2024 regional and after an opening round win in the 2024 regional versus Kansas, the Jayhawks got revenge in the elimination game rematch by winning 9-8. Another team on the rise in the Mid-America resides in Lawrence, KS. Following an impressive 2024 season that saw Kansas fall to Iowa State in the regional championship, Kansas will look to return the regional and qualify for the World Series. After losing their 1st game at the 2024 regional, they fought all the way back to the regional final.

Can Iowa State defend their 2024 regional title and return to Alton?

NORTHERN PACIFIC TEAM PREVIEWS

DIVISION I TEAM PREVIEWS  |  DAY 2 OF 8

NORTHERN PACIFIC REGION!

The University of Oregon looks to continue their conference domination and return to the World Series after a successful 2024 campaign. Since the 13/14 season, the Ducks have compiled an eye-opening 115-10 conference record, 8 conference titles, and 4 DI World Series appearances. The Ducks return 14 from last year’s World Series squad.

Standing in their way will be another Northern Pacific Powerhouse, the Utah State Aggies.  The Aggies have a decorated history of their own since 2014, showing off a 117-9 conference record of their own, 9 conference titles, and 4 World Series appearances. The Aggies will look for revenge off of a 2024 regional championship loss to the Ducks.

Boise State  returns a strong squad as well, returning 13 players from a 2024 regional team with 10 of those carrying 23/24 all-region team honors.

Who is the team to beat out West in 2025?

UC Davis returns 23 guys this year after coming up short at the 2024 regional going 0-2.
