UNT Takes 2 of 3 from SMU

Despite dropping 2 of 3, SMU showed that they can contend in the very tough Gulf Coast North. Another strong pitching performance from Charlie Haley on the mound did help SMU secure a coveted conference win. The Mustangs were also aided at the plate by the hitting of Nick Sotta and Garrett Kinney.

#3 Texas Tech Take Series From #19 Baylor

#3 Texas Tech used the hot hitting of veteran Marcus Molina to secure a series win over a very game opponent in #19 Baylor. Baylor held their own during the weekend and secured a victory from Travis Spear’s dominant start on the hill. The all important rematch in Waco will be in a few weeks.

Tiemann Leads Kats to Series Win

The Sam Houston State Bearkats were led by the play of Brian Tiemann against conference rival LSC Kingwood. Brian finished the weekend 6-12 with a 3B and a HR to go with his nearly flawless performance at shortstop. The Kats won Game 1 on a 1-hitter by Hunter Pirtle and hung on to win Game 2 in extra innings after a furious late inning rally from Kingwood. A well played Game 3 by both teams went to Kingwood 4-3 on the strength of a complete game by Kingwood’s Jordan Coaliron.

Lauderdale Slugs Montgomery to Sweep

Ryan Lauderdale’s bat helped the LSC-Montgomery Mavericks keep their hot start going. Lauderdale was 7-8 and had 10 RBI on the series. The victories move the Mavs into a tie for first place in the Gulf Coast East at 5-1.
